The display industry is like a precious gem that’s indispensable to many consumer products, such as TVs, laptops, and smartphones – just like how a piece of gemstone is a vital component to make a beautiful piece of jewelry. The growth, development, and decline of the consumer market can have a significant impact on the display industry, just like how the popularity and demand for certain types of jewelry affect the production and sale of gemstones.
During the pandemic, the need for consumer products raised a lot, because they needed additional devices when spending more time at home. Similar to how the gem industry can’t produce a significant amount of gemstones overnight, expanding the production capacity of display panels is also a time-consuming process that takes around two years to transition to mass production. Therefore, during the pandemic, the shortage control mainly relied on capacity regulation and product portfolio changes. Since display supply was short, the prices were higher. Display business was earning lots of money during that time.
With the pandemic slowly receding in 2022, the market demand for displays is gradually returning to pre-pandemic levels. However, terminal sales inventory is being slowly consumed, leading to a decrease in orders for component manufacturers and requests from customers to suspend shipments. Display business still struggles to overcome the oversupply issue.
Just like how a beautiful, shiny gemstone can attract people to a piece of jewelry, advanced display technology can catch the eyes of consumers. That’s why top brands are always eager to incorporate high-end displays into their flagship products. With the display industry continuing to innovate and push the boundaries of what’s possible, consumers can expect to see even more exciting developments in the near future. In my next post, I’ll dive deeper into the latest technologies in the display industry. Stay tuned for more!!
